Lev. 3 ISO 9712 UT-PA-TOFD-RT-VT-MT-PT

Francesco Centenaro assists clients with technical consulting, the analysis of application cases, the implementation of regulations and the development of customized solutions for conventional and non-conventional ultrasonic testing.

His work at IMG Ultrasuoni focuses in particular on the development of automated UT systems, instrument configurations, probes, tracked robots and automated solutions, combining his expertise in NDT with extensive experience in practical project management.

With over 22 years of experience in non-destructive testing, he has gained extensive expertise in the oil & gas and energy sectors, overseeing NDT operations, inspections and testing, reviewing project documentation, planning technical activities and coordinating operational teams.

His expertise focuses on the integration of NDT methods, project management and the practical application of technology. His work is particularly focused on developing structured, documentable and replicable technical solutions.

  • Technical support for customers in evaluating complex application scenarios
  • Implementation, supervision and training on conventional and advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) methods
  • Development and issuance of operating procedures
  • Application of advanced UT techniques, including Phased Array and TOFD
  • Project management for automatic ultrasonic control systems
  • Strategic planning of technical activities
  • Use of specialized technical software for the configuration, analysis and management of controls
  • Review of technical project documentation: customer specifications, welding procedures, certifications and test reports
  • Research and development of probes, equipment, tracked robots and automated systems

Throughout his career, he has worked in complex industrial environments, particularly in the oil & gas and energy sectors.

He has gained experience as an NDT supervisor and consultant, overseeing inspection and testing activities on a wide variety of components, including valves, pressure vessels and steam generators.

His experience also includes reviewing project documentation, including tasks related to verifying customer specifications, welding procedures, certifications, test reports and final documentation for shipment and delivery.

His career began in industrial quality control and gradually expanded into the field of non-destructive testing (NDT), eventually leading to roles in supervision, operational coordination and project management.

2003 – 2004 | Mollificio Lombardo S.p.A.
He started out as a quality control technician, responsible for verifying product specifications in an industrial setting.

2004 – 2017 | CTR – Consulting Testing Research S.r.l.
He serves as the NDT Manager/Supervisor for inspection and testing activities. In this role, he leverages advanced techniques such as Phased Array and TOFD, applying them to components such as valves, pressure vessels and steam generators.

2017 – 2021 | SGS CTR S.r.l.
He is responsible for operational, sales, security and product coordination. He oversees the planning of operators’ daily activities, manages long-term projects and resolves technical issues related to the team’s activities and customer requests.

He also works with the HR, Legal and Finance departments to manage the office’s costs and organizational needs.

Dal 2021 | IMG Ultrasuoni S.r.l.
Join IMG as a Level 3 Technician and Project Manager.

The company supports customers from case studies through to regulatory compliance, conducts training courses on the use of new equipment and unconventional UT techniques and participates in the development of automated ultrasonic testing systems.

At IMG, Francesco Centenaro primarily works on projects where the client needs to translate a technical requirement into a structured control solution.

Its value comes into play when it is necessary to analyze a specific application, verify regulatory requirements, select the most appropriate configuration, define a procedure or develop a system that is more advanced than traditional manual control.

His experience in managing operational and documentation activities enables him to effectively coordinate multiple aspects of the project: technical performance, repeatability of testing, ease of use for operators, compliance with specifications and the solution’s sustainability in the client’s real-world context.

One of the most representative areas of his work at IMG involves the development of automated ultrasonic inspection systems.

In these projects, technical expertise extends beyond the choice of instrumentation to encompass the entire control system: probes, equipment configuration, technical software, material handling, tracked robots, operating procedures and data acquisition methods.

The goal is to develop solutions that make the control process more stable, more repeatable and better suited to situations where the operator must work according to clear criteria, with documentable results and processes that are as standardized as possible.

This work requires a broad perspective: understanding the problem, translating it into technical requirements, coordinating the development phases and guiding the client through the implementation of the final solution.

In addition to his work in development and technical support, Francesco Centenaro conducts refresher and training courses focused on the use of non-conventional ultrasound equipment and techniques.

The training program is practical and application-oriented: the goal is not only to explain how the instrument works, but also to help technicians use it with greater confidence, from initial setup to interpreting the results.

His experience with complex projects allows him to provide concrete examples, highlight real challenges and offer useful guidance to make the process more reliable, organized and repeatable.
